What Is a Chandelier?

Amazon ImageA chandelier can be defined as, “a decorative, oftentimes ornate, light fixture suspended from a ceiling, usually having two or more branched supports for a number of lights.” The word chandelier can be traced to Old French, meaning candle holder. Also, a modification from the Latin word, candelabrum.

Chandeliers often contain dozens and may even have hundreds of lamps or bulbs. And though they are not limited to small bulbs, chandeliers most often use smaller, lower wattage bulbs which are very often shaped like a candle flame. The light bulbs in modern chandeliers are most often surrounded by glass or crystal prisms to illuminate their surroundings with refracted light – adding charm and beauty to any room.
